I experimented with some stencil's and paints/inks, the outcomes wasn't as good as I hoped although I did like the texture of  the acrylic paint stencil.

 

Bib & Tucker fine lined

I did draw out the design in fine liner to use in case I didn't like the experiment outcomes, which I can scan in and live trace.

Live trace/Refined

I decided to scan in my fine lined design and after using the live trace tool I refined the design as best as I could on illustrator.

Final design

With the refining complete I transferred the finished design onto the template.

T-shirt quick thumbnails

Starting my T-Shirt design, I began with drawing some very quick thumbnails to get some design ideas.  My main idea was to do something creative with the name of my company (Bib and Tucker)

After the thumbnails I drew out my ideas in more detail, seeing how my ideas would turn out and which designs I like the most, and could potentially take on to further designs.

Here are my three final tag designs. I decided to go with the simpler tag layouts because I wanted to keep the tags clean and professional looking, keeping the tags black and white so that it fits in with the colour scheme from my stationary.

My First tag (Clothing) was designed like was because firstly, this was the largest tag out of the three and clothing will be the largest item the tags have to go on. Another thing is that in my opinion this tag is the most appealing out of the three, which i made because clothing would have the highest cost out of my three sections.

The second circular tag (Bags) was designed this way because bags are not very large items so you don't need a large tag. Also a circular tag would be easy to find and fit comfortably on a bag.

The final tag, which is my accessory tag is the smallest out of the three was designed like this because accessories are only small with the largest being a hat, so the tag doesn't need to be too big. And because of the slim design I had to move the logo etc. onto the side.

For my tag designs, first I decided to draw out a few ideas for tag designs. I didn't know if it should have the tag's made in the shape of things that we relate to, for example a kangaroo, or use simple templates. 

I decided that I was going to use simple shapes for my tag designs for two reasons. One being that my theme for my previous work such as my logo and stationary has followed a simple theme, so I decided that I would stick to that theme. The second is that I find that find simple designs more smart. 

I went on to quickly sketch out a few simple tag layouts that i could potentially use for my tags.

For my stationery I started off with the letterhead. To start off I added my company logo to the centre of the page and used the same logo to add a watermark. However their was still something missing from the design, so i took the drip feature from my logo and made it look like they were dripping down the page.

In the end I decided to put the two drips closer together as they were spread too far apart, and added in the required information such as a Telephone number and address, which i centred in the middle of the page in line with my logo. For this i chose to use a sort of mild slab serif font so that the words are bold, also the font for the bottom of my logo were a slab serif.

With the letterhead complete I knew what theme the stationery was going to take, so for my compliment slip all i had to do was scale the letterheads sizes down to fit the compliment slips template, and of course add the finishing touch of 'With Compliments' which I chose to use a more italic typeface for so it would stand out.

Finally my business cards which i chose to separate the logo from the information. For the front of the business cards to change it up a bit I decided to invert the colour of my logo, and have a black background. Leaving the information to go onto the back of the cards where I added in the two drips from the previous stationery designs to keep the my theme.

For my final design I created a few versions of the logo, each with varied type designs on them.

After that I picked the best design, which for me was the design above. I picked this design for the main reason of the logo having both the full name of my company and Perth. I also put the logo on a wood textured background, so that you can see how the design is see-through.

Live Trace/ Refining Exercise

In one of my lessons we were all taught the method of live trace and how to do it. So after drawing a quick sketch of a potential logo idea, I followed the instructions I was shown and created a rough design using live trace on illustrator.

Moving on to actually start thinking about what my logo is going to look like, I drew out a few design ideas I could possibly take on as my final logo.

Development

After choosing that the final 'Bib' drawing I had made was my favourite idea, I decided to expand on that idea; adding in the rest of the tile into the design, and adding in some features such as the drip. I then thought about what the logo would look like if I added the word Perth into the design, and drew out the idea.

A big thing that we are always being told is to experiment further and to look at different materials. So with that in mind I looked at the four materials: wax, charcoal, paint and ink. The first thing I tried was drawing the design in wax, and going over it in charcoal. And the second which was similar, but with watercolours. The two methods did work surprisingly well, although it was very hard to put any detail into the drawn design. The next was my failed attempt of trying to cut out the shapes of my logo and splat paint over them, and peel off the cut outs to reveal my logo. Finally I moved onto using ink, which was my favourite choice as I could go into more detail. And although I did mess up with the blue ink, the black came out really well.

For my initial design, I decided to make a few changes to my design. One improvement I made to my design was I have made the writing larger so that you can see the letters more. Another improvement I made was taking out the flicks that I had on the design, because I wanted my design to be like ink and so I decided to make my design more smooth.

Name of Brand

Name of apparel brand

With the research complete i had to come up with the name of my apparel brand. I drew out a quick brainstorm of names i could think of. Out of all of the names i found that i liked Bib & Tucker the most. The phrase Bib & Tucker is actually australian slang for an attractive outfit, which i found linked in well with my chose city Perth, and  the fact that we are creating an apparel brand.

Next I created a few mood boards to help get a ideas of design ideas and things I could use in my designs. I created three mood boards, one for my chosen city Perth, one for colour schemes, and the last potential typography.
